“The perspectives of Internews Europe are increasingly global. It should continue establishing further links with media overseas, assisting and encouraging them professionally and technically. Internews well understands the difficult and even dangerous conditions, under which journalists in some countries have to carry out their work. To fight that is of course one of the key issues. Even within Europe journalists, revealing corruption and abuse of power, could be facing considerable personal risks. An urgent task for the future is to promote worldwide freedom of the media, explaining its importance, not only to journalists, who already are aware of the advantages and powers of a free press, but also to actors within politics, culture and other branches of society, in the world at large."
