On World AIDS Day French Radio BFM interviewed Internews Europe Program Manager Alix Françoise.
Mediaids in India. Since 2004, as part of its thematic transversal programmes to cover health journalism issues, Internews Europe has been working in India on improving the media environment for HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment effort. The project aimed to sensitise radio and TV journalists and film makers for programming on HIV/AIDS in India.
HIV/AIDS issues are relatively infrequently covered by local media and, when they are, often with a lack of accuracy, balance and insight. Negative tone of media reportage has intensified the stigmatization of drug-users and those with HIV have been worst affected. Moreover, the over-identification of the HIV epidemic with drug-users has obscured the spreading of the epidemic driven by unprotected sex and mother-to-child transmission.
