Port au Prince, Washington DC, Paris - 19 January 2010 – UNOCHA, the global coordinator for Humanitarian response, delegated authority to Internews to be the lead media assistance agency in coordinating all international media assistance efforts to Haiti and for ensuring that media assistance efforts are coordinated with the need of Humanitarian organizations to get their information out to the affected population so that humanitarian information is accurate and consistently disseminated across broadcast, SMS, and print media.
In the next 48 hours, Internews will start test production of broadcast messages from Humanitarian agencies nationally through Radio 1 and through radio stations covering all of Port au Prince. All humanitarian agencies wishing to broadcast information through local radio are encouraged to send emails messages to the Internews team at info-er-haiti@internews.org.
