The Open Society Institute (OSI) is a private grant-making foundation created in 1993 by investor Georges Soros. Initially created to support his foundations in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, OSI has expanded the foundations’ activities to other countries making the transition to democracy. OSI works to build vibrant and tolerant democracies whose governments are accountable to their citizens.
