The British and Commonwealth Office was created in 1968 by merging the Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Office. FCO, commonly called the Foreign Office, is the British government department responsible for promoting the interests of the United Kingdom and its citizens overseas. In addition, FCO has three funding programmes. The Strategic Programmes Funds supports actions on global Issues; the Conflict Prevention Programme works on crisis-prevention and stabilisation; and the Fellowship and Scholarship Programme enables people to study in the UK.
