Webdiversity 2011Webdiversity 2011
Maison des Métallos, 94 rue Jean-Pierre Timbaud, Paris

This year’s WebDiversity conference, which takes place in Paris on 21 May, is putting a spotlight on a world-changing year that has dramatically propelled the Internet, and more specifically platforms such as FaceBook and Twitter, to central stage for eluding internet censorship and spurring democratic change. Their role in WikiLeaks revelations to revolutions in North Africa and the Middle East has already earmarked 2011 as the year that social media tools have come of age.

The conference will offer participants and speakers alike a chance to debate, discuss ideas and share thoughts on what freedom of expression on the Internet means today and what’s at stake in France and throughout the world.

The WebDiversity conference honours UNESCO’s World Day for Cultural Diversity, Dialogue and Development which takes place each year on 21st May. Internet Sans Frontières and Maison des Métallos are the hosting the event with WiserEarth.org and Mediapart as supporting partners. They are expecting more than 200 participants to gather in the newly renovated Maison des Métallos building in the 11th arrondissement of Paris.
