The CDAC Network is convening a Media and Technology Fair in March 2012. This will provide an opportunity to learn about different telecoms and media applications that can help aid providers communicate more effectively with people in crisis. The event will showcase new ways of working in this fast-developing arena, and create space to solve current challenges. There will be a hands-on opportunity to experiment with the different applications.
Overall, the two day event will:
- explore how communicating with affected communities is part of effective humanitarian action
- showcase technology and media communications channels with frank and honest feedback on what works and what doesn’t
- bring to light innovative practices that have not yet been widely talked or written about, and provide an opportunity to learn and problem solve
- encourage greater mutual understanding between aid agencies and media and technology providers, toward potentially greater collaboration
- help practitioners understand how to integrate technology-mediated two-way communications into the project cycle
- create a directory of tools and approaches to help humanitarians choose the most effective tech and media tools and channels for the contexts in which they are working
