Internews Europe is a European non-profit organisation established in 1995 to help developing countries establish and strengthen independent media organisations in order to support freedom of expression and freedom of access to information.
Mark Harvey was appointed Internews Executive Director
in early 2011, having previously served as Director of Development for more
than five years. Mark is an expert on the role of media in social, economic and
environmental change. He has played a key role in overseeing Internews'
support from Europe to social change agents in the Middle East and North
Africa (MENA) region and is currently advising European governments and
policy-makers on how enlightened strategic assistance to both traditional and
social media can contribute to transition in the region. Mark was the lead
European author of the groundbreaking publication Media
Matters: Perspectives on Development and Governance from the Global Forum
for Media Development commissioned by the UK’s Department for
International Development (DFID). Since working with Internews, Mark has
pioneered a number of international partnerships with agencies such as the
World Bank, WWF, IUCN Regional Office for Europe, MTV Europe and Planet Finance
on a range of initiatives that included a community media social enterprise for
micro-entrepreneurs in India. He has also co-led alliance-building process
with major agencies in the humanitarian sector (UN OCHA, British and Irish Red
Cross and Save the Children UK) to improve the use of local media and new
communications technologies as part of aid delivery in humanitarian crisis
zones.
Before joining Internews, Mark worked as a co-founder
and co-producer of the long-running Earth Report
series, the weekly environmental affairs program broadcast by BBC World. He is
the creator of the Element Strand, on sustainability issues for youth
broadcasters, and has a Masters in Public Administration from the Harvard
Kennedy School and in Modern Languages and Literature from Oxford
University. Mark is a British national and he speaks English, French,
German and Japanese.
Sophie Boudry Gabillet
Director of Administration and Human Resources
Sophie Boudry Gabillet has
worked with Internews Europe since the launch of the organisation back in
1995. She was responsible for setting
up all of the administrative and management procedures required for such a
complex international operation. Before joining Internews Europe, Sophie worked
as a Press Relations Officer in both the UK and Germany. She has a
master’s degree in foreign languages from La Sorbonne University in Paris and a
specialisation in export practices from ESCP (Paris Business Superior
School). She is a French national and speaks English, French and
German.
Christine Jodet
Director of Finance
Christine Jodet joined
Internews Europe in 1997. She has
been instrumental in developing the financial systems allowing Internews Europe
to work with an ever growing portfolio of partner local media organisations
around the world. Christine also
oversees practical cooperation between Internews Europe and its sister
organisation Internews Network. As Director of Finance, she manages a team of
staff with responsibility for project financial control and systems, corporate finance
and accounting. Christine has been working in the business and finance
management sector since 1984. She is a Franco-American-Swiss national and
speaks English and French.
Daniel Bruce
Director of Development
Daniel Bruce has been the Director of Development
since late 2011. Daniel has extensive and varied experience in the international
media assistance sector, from directing filed projects, to the development of
new curricula, evaluation systems and donor fundraising proposals. Daniel
worked for Internews Network in Kenya and Uganda where he held the position of
Resident Journalism Adviser/Chief of Party from 2008-2009. He then spent two
years as a Development Adviser for Internews, playing a central role in donor
fundraising for activities in more than 20 countries. Prior to his media
development career, Daniel worked for more than a decade as a journalist and
senior editor in UK radio. Daniel is a British national and is an associate of
both the London College of Music and Media and the London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Art.
Jacobo Quintanilla
Director of Humanitarian Media
Jacobo Quintanilla became the Director of Humanitarian
Media since 2010. He has also worked for Internews in Haiti as the CDAC
(Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities) and Humanitarian Coordinator
in 2010 and originally joined Internews in Sri Lanka in 2007. In the past, Jacobo has worked for
Amnesty International and ActionAid in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan as a media and
communication officer. Constantly on the road, he develops the Internews’ humanitarian
information programs around the world in order to promote the use of
information in the humanitarian sector. Jacobo Quintanilla has a Masters in
International Relations and Communication and a BA Journalism of Universidad
Complutense of Madrid (Spain). He is a Spanish national and speaks
English, Spanish and French.
Jun Julien Matsushita
Head of Innovation and Technology
Jun Matsushita has
been Head of Innovation and Technology since 2010, having originally joined
Internews in 2008. Hemanages ICT strategy and provides high level
advice on technology projects and global IT systems. He has technical
expertise on systems and network administration, open source web development
tools, mobile & telephony platforms, digital security and knowledge
management. Prior to joining Internews Europe, Jun worked for more than 8 years
as a Technology Consultant in Paris and New York. He is a member of Crisis Camp
Paris and the CDAC Online working group. Jun Matsushita has a Masters
degree in Fundamental Physics from University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI)
and a licence degree in Philosophy. He is a French and Japanese national and
speaks English, French and Spanish.
